It was the summer of 2021 and I had just come back from a holiday and was newly single. The UK was just coming out of lockdown and I was keen to socialise and get myself out there. So I downloaded a dating app beginning with H (If you know, you know!) I uploaded some pics and videos, wrote about myself and then applied a ton of filters, then hit search!
I don't remember how long it took to match Nneka but I do recall being on the app for less than a week. On her profile she had asked a question about whether extra terrestrial life exists and I commented. From my comment, she saw my profile, clocked the levels and proceeded to engage! We exchanged numbers and after a few calls and imessages we agreed to meet.
She lived in Greenwich so I thought it would be good to meet at the o2, North Greenwich as it shouldn't be too far for her. Right? Well… as it happens, Nneka was 40 minutes late! Good job I patiently waited as this fairytale could have had a different ending. We were considerably behind schedule so we had to skip the pre-drinks, rush our meal and make our way to the bowling alley that I had pre-booked. We had a really fun time that resulted in Nneka beating me. She showcased excellent hand to eye coordination, awesome technique and a good competitive spirit. After the date we raced to our respective homes and she beat me again! From that moment I knew Nneka was special.
Fast forward to the present day... I still haven’t overturned my defeat in bowling but I do take pride in the fact I will feel like the biggest winner in gaining Nneka’s hand in marriage.
I remember the first time I met Okechukwu like it was yesterday. We first started talking on a popular dating app after he responded to a question about whether aliens exist on my profile. His answer ticked all the right boxes and so I allowed the conversation to proceed! We texted for a while and after our first phone convo that lasted for a couple of hours, I was intrigued.
We agreed to meet up and I was excited as he was my first (and only) date on the app but unfortunately I was a tad late (I’m still working on my time-keeping). I was looking for him in a crowd of people until a waiter came up to me and said “I think I know who you’re looking for”, pointing to Okey…and he was very right!
The convo flowed, we had a great time, followed by dinner where he divulged the fact that we would be doing my least favourite activity ever…bowling. I went in prepared to have an ok time, at best, but ended up having a lot of fun! I beat him (twice, back to back) - my first ever bowling win(s) and to this day I still have a video that he took of one of my impressive strikes. We agreed to race back to our respective homes (I won again) and from that day I knew that Okey was my exact kind of person and he’s proven me right every day since.
